End Of Year Recap On All the FUN STUFF! (Yoga, Creative Movement + Snack Time)

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

We are approaching the end of this school year (2016-2017) and I simply can not believe it! Like, WOW where did the time REALLY go?! But I guess that saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun” can live up to its meaning. This year has definitely been one amazing trip.  I’m so excited to see all of our CES camp excel to the next grade level — they’ve earned it! Although I will really miss my Kindergarteners who’ve been hanging out with me since they were in PK3 🙂

Any who, I’d like to think that a few of our memories from this year will stem from Yoga (with Ms. Ayana), Creative Movement (with Ms. GiGi), free play + snack time. In all classes, there’s nothing like seeing the smiling faces of joy when it’s time to do those activities. And since the weather has been generally nice + beautiful, they prefer to eat their snacks outside, sitting on the benches in the courtyard. How could I say “no” to that?!

Take a moment with me in recapping all of the tons of fun that we’ve had this school year:

On Fridays At Bancroft, We Build Things!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

On last week, we had some pretty great weather! Actually, the last couple of weeks we’ve had fairly warm weather considering that it is now the very end of January.  So of course our friends had to take much advantage of it! We spent a lot of time outside from 3:30-4:00pm. However, I had to remind them that they still must wear their jackets/sweaters.

“It’s not quite Spring yet friends!” 🙂

This week, the temperature will return to the mid thirties, so I am really glad that we got a chance to revisit the sunshine if only for a couple of days.

On Fridays, the kindergarten class and I have a adopted a theme where we play a bit with our imagination(s).  On the last few Fridays we’ve talked about sea creatures, different types of fruits/veggies, and a discussion on bullying.  Last Friday, the class as a whole, decided to create and build something with the use of their imaginations. With that in mind, they broke up into groups and built:

  • a dog house
  • a barbie/doll house
  • airplanes
  • boats/ships

We also had a couple of our friends who opted to hang out in the reading corner and read books centered around “construction”. Let’s take a look!

***Announcement: Parents, I have received a few calls regarding lost items such as jackets, scarves, hats, etc. Most times, I am able to retrieve the items by looking around the classrooms. There isn’t an official Lost & Found location in the school, but as always, I will keep my eyes open and hope for a speedy return!

Mittens, Scarves + Coats! Is Your Child Bundled UP For Winter??

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

December has arrived which means no outside play unless your child is BUNDLED UP! Some days are warmer than others, but for the most part, the very cold DC weather has made its landing. The rule is: no coat, no play! We certainly do not want any of our little friends getting sick before the holidays 🙂

Don’t they look warm + cozy?!

Come Find Out What’s Going On At J.O. Wilson!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

We’re back and delighted to share a snippet (or two, three) of our LITTLE FRIENDS over at J.O. Wilson Elementary! They have  been having tons of fun and cool adventures with Site Coordinator Ms. Helene and staff; along with enrichment instructors, Mr. Dale (Capoeira) and Ms. Ayana (Yoga).

It also looks like our friendly Kindergarten faces had a friendship-bracelet and necklace making party! At CES, we truly love arts + crafts because that’s the perfect time to let our students be creative and artsy in their own way; and with their own imagination! Let’s take a look:

PS: Ms. Helene, your friends at Bancroft say HEY!

Happy Thanksgiving! Here’s What We’re Thankful For…

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

This year for Thanksgiving we only had two days for activities right before the extended break. On the first day, each class discussed the holiday and talked about their favorite part and favorite holiday food! We then colored turkeys only using the warm Autumn colors, as we’d previously studied the different colors of the leaves.

On the next day, we make THANKFUL TREES! The students were instructed to color and cut out (Kindergarten only cut; PK3 & 4 teachers helped cut for them) a tree bark and leaves; glue them down and write what they are thankful for on each leaf.

So many funny answers from the little silly gooses, but I think each and every one of the projects included “Mom and Dad” so they are DEFINITELY thankful for you guys! Take a look…

Enrichment With Ms. Ayana (Yoga) + Creative Movement (Ms. Gigi)

Hello Parents, Guardians + Friends!

Enrichment as certainly been a joy for our little CES friends so far!  This year, we’ve been hanging out with Ms. Ayana in Yoga and the ever so colorful Ms. Gigi in Creative Movement. If you had to ask your child which they liked better, they’d probably tell you that it’s a hard choice! However, our students have asked about Mr. Dale in Capoeira so, hopefully we can get him back for next semester after the holidays!

In addition to Enrichment, we also make sure to give students enough time for outside play, free play (centers), free draw and coloring! This blog is featuring our PK4 class with teachers: Ms. Destinee, Ms. Gladys + Ms. Keith.

Nevertheless, take a peek at how much CES is enjoying this year’s fun…

BANCROFT | Mother’s Day + Crafts Recap

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

On last week at Bancroft we celebrated our MOTHERS every single day! CES MOMS, did you receive at least 5 special somethings, well put together by your little one(s)? You should have! Because they worked so very hard on their mini projects in showing their love for you.

There were even some students creating double of the same project and I asked, “Oh are you making one for your grandmother too?!” Wellllll unfortunately that was NOT the case, and instead ALL for you, MOM!

**One thing about craft time at Bancroft, I instruct the teachers to allow their students to be creative in their very own way, by themselves. I think it’s important to watch and help from a distance in implementing fun + creativity; and also gives them some free space to come up with their own ideas!

Here’s what they did:

CES Welcomes New Curriculum Specialist, Ms. Janice Harper + EARTH DAY

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

You may have noticed a *NEW* face around our parts during the After School programs at both Bancroft + JO Wilson. Yep, that’s right — we have a new staff and her name is Ms. Janice Harper. She came on board last week to serve as our Curriculum Specialist and we absolutely just LOVE her presence, energy and helpful tips! She’s a former educator and her connection with the kids is like none other. Simply put, she reminds me A LOT of my very own mother who’s also a retired educator. Ms. Janice brings a breath of fresh air and warmth to the program and treats the children as her own.

Also on last week, we celebrated EARTH DAY! Our kids love Earth Day and if you ask them all about, please plan to take a moment to hear them out — because they will have quite a lot of engaging things to say!

Thanks so much Ms. Jan (as we call her) for coming in to read to our students about Earth Day. They really enjoyed it!

And let me just commend our kids on their coloring! Isn’t it wonderful? They have surely improved from the beginning of the year 🙂
