Farewell! Wishing Each of You a Very Happy Summer 2017!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

The time has finally arrived for us to wish you and all of our CES crew a very HAPPY 2017 SUMMER! We can’t believe how fast the year ran through — WOW.  It’s like the FALL season was just here a couple weeks ago. Nevertheless, I am so proud of each of our CES kiddos who are moving up and moving on 😦 Sad, but proud.

Again, we’d like to thank all of the parents who have supported us not only during this school year, but during the previous years as well.  In case you missed it, here’s a note from our Program Director:

As many of you know, CES will not be returning to Bancroft ES next school year. This decision was not that of CES, however, the school administration of Bancroft and the PTO have decided to move forward with another after-school enrichment provider.

We have enjoyed having been a part of the Bancroft Elementary School family for the past 5 years, and will forever be grateful for the opportunity to provide high quality after school enrichment services to your children.

Have a great Summer!!

Take care 🙂

We will deeply miss our Bancroft family, but will continue to keep watch!

During the last week of school, we ended our fun by doing a couple of Father’s Day activities and celebrated the last day together with our annual  popsicle party!! It was so overwhelming for me to say the least, that I didn’t get around to taking many pictures! However, here’s a little peak at what happened:

Also, thank you to our enrichment staff for help making this program a success! Have a safe and FUN summer!

End Of Year Recap On All the FUN STUFF! (Yoga, Creative Movement + Snack Time)

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

We are approaching the end of this school year (2016-2017) and I simply can not believe it! Like, WOW where did the time REALLY go?! But I guess that saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun” can live up to its meaning. This year has definitely been one amazing trip.  I’m so excited to see all of our CES camp excel to the next grade level — they’ve earned it! Although I will really miss my Kindergarteners who’ve been hanging out with me since they were in PK3 🙂

Any who, I’d like to think that a few of our memories from this year will stem from Yoga (with Ms. Ayana), Creative Movement (with Ms. GiGi), free play + snack time. In all classes, there’s nothing like seeing the smiling faces of joy when it’s time to do those activities. And since the weather has been generally nice + beautiful, they prefer to eat their snacks outside, sitting on the benches in the courtyard. How could I say “no” to that?!

Take a moment with me in recapping all of the tons of fun that we’ve had this school year:

Mother’s Day Stuff With Our Friends at Bancroft!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

Happy belated Mother’s Day to ALL of our wonderful mommies who help make our program a success by allowing your child to share moments with our Bancroft + JO Wilson staff in after school! This has been one extremely fun year and as we prepare to say goodbye to the 2016-2017 school year, we surely made plans to help celebrate you all. This year, all CES after-school classes opened their creative boxes and colored, cut, glued, and pasted some LOVELY projects! Each class made their very own Mother’s Day cards; some for mommies and others for grand mommies! They really took their time and made sure to create something meaningful and express just how much they truly feel about you!

Additionally, we also spent that week reading books centered around mommies (Mama Bears, Mama Bunnies… among others).

Did you love your card? Make sure you pin your coloring sheets up somewhere visible for gentle reminders of just how much you mean to your child(ren)! Oh, but DADS… you’re next!

Here’s what happened…

Easter Outside Play 2017

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

I’m delighted to share with you all some pictures of our Easter adventures held on Good Friday 4/14! Every year, I plan fun week-long activities and an Easter Egg Hunt to close out the week. This year, our CES crew enjoyed various Easter coloring pages, one bunny/egg art + craft and the biggest piece of all — you guessed it, the hunt!

Each class (PK3, PK4 and Kindergarten) had their very own egg hunt in the Bancroft (Sharpe) courtyards at specific times. CUTENESS OVERLOAD as the staff and I watched them search for colorful plastic eggs. Some were even dressed in glitter that contained different prizes!

To go along with the egg hunt, students got to make very their own bags, which served as our mini craft that week. Did you hear about all the fun we had?? If not, check the pictures below to see for yourself:

Bancroft Celebrates… DR. SEUSS Week + Birthday! March 2, 2017

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

We hope that you all are staying safe and warm after “Winter Storm Stella”! I guess I spoke too soon when sharing my excitement about the warmer spring-like weeks that we were getting. Sigh. Mother nature sure knows how to play tricks on us!

Any who, didn’t I tell you guys that the Bancroft crew LOVES to celebrate holidays??? Well, Dr. Seuss is also one of our *faves*. I mean, who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss illustrations and the super silly, tongue twisting rhymes that come with?

This year, we did something a tad bit different. Since each day during Dr. Seuss week was specifically themed by DCPS, we decided to play along; with Wednesday being the most exciting day! Wednesday was “Thing 1 & Thing 2” Day 🙂 Students were encouraged to dress like twins on this day, and in after school, we proceeded to make “Thing 1 & Thing 2” paper bag puppets! The kiddos partnered up and one created a Thing 1 puppet, while the other created a Thing 2 puppet.

Wellllllllll…… let’s take a look at what was created. Do you see your Thing 1 or Thing 2???

THERE Is NO After-School On March 13, 2017 + Potential Snow Day (Winter Storm Stella)

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

This is an announcement just to alert you that there will be NO aftercare at Bancroft Elementary (Sharpe) on Monday, March 13, 2017 due to the Standing Ovation Award Ceremony where our Bancroft staff members will be honored.  With that said, all aftercare students will be placed on the 3:30pm bus at the school’s regular dismissal time.

Additionally, please make sure to follow Winter Storm STELLA watch this evening in the chance of a potential snow day for tomorrow, March 14th. The weather channel is reporting at least 4-8 inches of snow to begin this evening around 9pm.

**Please note that if DCPS closes due to a snow day, CES aftercare is also closed. As always, reach out to us via email/phone with any additional questions and/or concerns!

This Is How We Celebrated LOVE Day At Bancroft!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

No holiday goes unnoticed at Bancroft Elementary! We’ve made it a tradition to spend at least one day (or even a week long) celebrating holidays in the forms of:

  • discussion
  • arts/crafts
  • music/dance
  • coloring/drawing
  • and more!

Such was the case for Valentine’s Day! One of my favorites, so we definitely had to spend a couple of days spreading the LOVE ❤ ❤ ❤  We also ended the day with white chocolate kisses + cupcakes!

Parents, what do ya think? Did they enjoy VDay 2017 or what?! We hope that you loved your personalized cards! Take a look:

On Fridays At Bancroft, We Build Things!

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

On last week, we had some pretty great weather! Actually, the last couple of weeks we’ve had fairly warm weather considering that it is now the very end of January.  So of course our friends had to take much advantage of it! We spent a lot of time outside from 3:30-4:00pm. However, I had to remind them that they still must wear their jackets/sweaters.

“It’s not quite Spring yet friends!” 🙂

This week, the temperature will return to the mid thirties, so I am really glad that we got a chance to revisit the sunshine if only for a couple of days.

On Fridays, the kindergarten class and I have a adopted a theme where we play a bit with our imagination(s).  On the last few Fridays we’ve talked about sea creatures, different types of fruits/veggies, and a discussion on bullying.  Last Friday, the class as a whole, decided to create and build something with the use of their imaginations. With that in mind, they broke up into groups and built:

  • a dog house
  • a barbie/doll house
  • airplanes
  • boats/ships

We also had a couple of our friends who opted to hang out in the reading corner and read books centered around “construction”. Let’s take a look!

***Announcement: Parents, I have received a few calls regarding lost items such as jackets, scarves, hats, etc. Most times, I am able to retrieve the items by looking around the classrooms. There isn’t an official Lost & Found location in the school, but as always, I will keep my eyes open and hope for a speedy return!

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! A Time To Reflect…

Hi Parents, Guardians + Friends!

As most of you know, Bancroft takes much time in teaching students HISTORY. This could be American history and/or history centered around specific holidays. Most importantly, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Last week, we prepared for the holiday by celebrating our dear Civil Rights’ activist. We followed suit and joined the entire Bancroft Elementary family in giving lessons about his leadership, life and death.  It’s important to us that we not only have lots of fun in our program, but also take time to teach our kids inspiring history.

***Please stay tuned for additional photos of MLK activities from last week!
