A Look Into Art Class — BUILDING A DRUM 101

Did you know, that you could build a drum using only 2 supplies: Styrofoam cups + tape!? We didn’t either until our art teacher, Ms. Queen successful showed us a quick How To! Our CES kids certainly had a lot of fun with this one — and couldn’t wait to beat on the drum in their own little way 🙂

But of course parents, I’m sure you’ve have enough of this so called drum beating by now!

Spring Has Sprung — Flowers and Airplanes and Kites, Oh My!

There’s nothing like enjoying a gorgeous SPRING day outside when you have all the necessities! (Even for us adults). So we decided to craft up some super cool, colorful airplanes + kites and journey outside to test them! Of course this was a pretty BIG deal for our little PK-4 gentleman 🙂

Lots of fun we had!

Also, in the kindergarten class, Ms. Helene discussed the growth of a spring flower. They read books and explored all the qualities of a potted plant.

Take a look!

Hey! We Know How To Have Birthday Parties Too!

On last week, we had a special Kindergartener celebrate his birthday! How could I not say YES to having a party??? Happy Birthday again to Alejandro Soliz who turned 6 years old. We had jello, fruit cake (with not so sweet icing), skittles and ended the  party with a game of FREEZE DANCE.

Yes, it was fun!

**PS: For any parents wanting to throw an After School birthday party for your child, you certainly can! Either during snack time in the cafeteria (or) in the classroom (after 4:30pm).

Welcome Spring! Our Fun Return To the Playground For Outside Play

While we “officially” await for Spring to arrive this weekend — we couldn’t help but to rush and tackle the playground and happily squint at the beautiful rays of sunshine! During snack time in the cafeteria everyday, our CES kids love to ask if we’re going outside to play — unfortunately, we had to answer “No, not today…” during our wintery months; but ever since we’ve sprung forward, “YES!” has been the answer everyday!

We also held Capoeira outside last week and this week! It was just too beautiful to be inside 🙂

“Oh The Places You Will Go!” — Our Week Exploring Dr. Seuss!

Despite these two snow days, this past week was ALL ABOUT the brilliant…

dr-seuss-tee

On the three days that we shared together, we explored, read and celebrated his birthday with fun activities and crafts. Special thanks to our staff members, Ms. Helene and Ms. Keith for loaning their special collection of Dr. Seuss books so that our kids could truly get a taste of his catchy phrases and colorful creatures!

From the classics, “Green Eggs & Ham” and “One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish”, to the more modern “Horton Hears A Who”, and “The Lorax”… Oh these are the places we’ve gone!

** Not to mention, Monday was pajama day 🙂

RECAP | Georgetown University Children’s Theatre Visits To Perform “The Race That Took the Cake”

On last week, we had the pleasure of attending a special children’s theatre performance put on by Georgetown University! Special Thanks to Ms. Cristina for the invitation, what a fun adventure it was 🙂 A few members of the theatre troupe performed what was especially written for elementary kids, “The Race that Took the Cake”!

It starts off with an elderly woman telling the story about a past experience that she had when she was considered one of the fastest sledders in the land; and all of the challenges (fun challenges) that she faced during that period of time. This play was centered around the themes of obedience, healthy nutrition, right/wrong as well as a few others to be understood by elementary aged school children.

Our CES kids surely enjoyed themselves and we’ve been told that we shall have other experiences such as this one in the future!
