A Quick Check-In On Jumpstart!

So it was announced a few weeks ago of our partnership with Jumpstart of America at American University and we (well, our kids) have enjoyed every minute of it!

Each week, they study one book and create fun + interesting projects/activities centered around the comprehension of that book.

This week it was all about “The Little Red Hen: Makes a Pizza”! And you better believe our kids did too! 🙂

Great News! Georgetown University Theater Will Be Performing On Friday

Hi parents, friends and guardians!

We are excited to let you all know that we will be sitting back and relaxing on tomorrow to enjoy a special performance from Georgetown University’s theater troupe! They will be visiting Bancroft’s after school programs from 4:30pm-6:00pm to showcase a little entertainment and fun during our time together.

You are welcome to come and visit with us during this time — please join us in the gymnasium as we will journey there after our snack time in the cafeteria!

Until next time, stay warm!

Introducing… Our Partnership With Jumpstart!

As many of you know, at the start of 2015, we officially began our partnership with  an amazing organization called Jumpstart.

Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Jumpstart delivers a research-based and cost-effective program by training college students and community volunteers to work with preschool-age children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path for lifelong success. Additionally, they work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Jumpstart is a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network.

Our group of Jumpstarters hail from American University and work/play with our Pre K-4 and Pre K-3ers. They visit our After School program on Monday & Thursdays, in which they have already completed some fun + engaging projects to include (but not limited to):

  • Dramatic Play
  • Sing-A-Longs
  • Story Time (w/comprehensive activity)
  • Painting

And much more!

Welcome February 2015!

Hello parents, friends and guardians!

February has finally arrived (Wow, where has the time gone?) and while we’re trying to stay cozy and as warm as possible, I am happy to report that year 2015 has already been good to CES! We have 2 fun activities each week (Capoeira and Art) and we’ve also started our new partnership with JUMPSTART! To be discussed in a later post 🙂 This year, we are priding ourselves in keeping our students involved, engaged and interested in our program and its activities! Contagious energy, I tell you!

So far here’s what has happened:

With the help of myself and Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Helene, each week, they plan an exciting theme to study and discuss. Since November, they have studied:

  • planets/solar system
  • winter sports
  • the letter P (princesses, pirates and pizza!)
  • dinosaurs
  • water creatures

Sounds fun, right? Take a look!

Pre-K 4 has also been having quite an exciting experience! Ms. Gladys and Ms. Keith each bring interesting crafts and activities for our little ones to enjoy each and every day (that is, when they aren’t busy with Capoeira, art and Jumpstart!)

And lastly, our babies, Pre-K 3 keep busy with learning new activities and their many curious questions! It’s always fun to peek in on Pre-K 3 because they are so excited to share with me what they completed and learned how to do! (Can we say, pizza, puzzles and play-doh?!) But, we’re sure that you get your share at home each evening 🙂
